NOTE TO ALL DESIGNERS: Please remember when creating HTML layouts that you do not use general global selectors (link, body, h1, etc.) when styling your layout! It will cause the site to break on that page. When styling your layout, make sure that your selectors are unique to that specific layout or clan/group. (instead of .welcome it's .clanwelcome).
TL;DR Use CSS selectors unique to that clan or group page.
With the Contest underway, I thought it wise to make a dedicated thread for Questions, Tips, and Tricks! This isn't a help thread, rather, if you have pieces of advice, feel free to comment them down below or send me a message so they can be added. For actual questions regarding coding, please refer to THIS THREAD.
/ Common Questions /
How do I create a custom page? You will need to be added to a group on this site before you can access the section needed to create & edit pages. Comment below if you need permissions. Once you have permissions, click on 'Settings', hover over 'Structure', and then click 'Custom Pages.' To create a new page, scroll down and click on 'Create New Custom Page.' Type in the title and hit 'Create.' Leave the layout 'Blank' and keep the 'Yes' button clicked for the Forum Wrapper. Your Custom Page is created!
How do I edit a custom page? When you first create your page, you will automatically start on the edit screen. Simply click 'Add Widget' at the top right of 'Zone 1' and add an HTML box. From here, you can copy paste the default layout code, if using it, or start building your own! To get to this page again, simply return to the 'Custom Pages' section in 'Settings' and click on your page's name. The far left one takes you to the edit screen. Hover over the blank area or layout in 'Zone 1' and hit 'Settings,' this will open up the HTML box for you to edit! ALWAYS REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR WORK! It is also recommended to back it up in a google doc, just in case, since you can't revert back a page to a previous version.

Hold down 'CTRL' and click with your mouse to create multiple text cursor places in your code. When you type, it will type across all lines. This is particularly convenient when you need to bold, italicize, or add line breaks.
To make a scrollbar disappear add 'scrollbar-width:none;' to any element in which 'overflow-y:scroll;' or 'overflow-x:scroll;' is found. You can change it from 'none' to 'thin' as well, for a visible, but thinner scrollbar. This will show up red, don't worry about it. You can put it above or below the overflow, both work. This will change the width in firefox, but not chrome.
To change the width & colors of a scrollbar in chrome, add the following code (you can add it in after the background in the CSS, but before the rest of the layout):
::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb { /* Adjusts Scrollbar thumb color, ie the movable bit */ background: #888; }
::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb:hover { /* Adjusts Scrollbar thumb hover color */ background: #555; }
This will cause it to show the change in chrome, but not firefox. To have both firefox & chrome show up with a thin scrollbar, or without one, you must include both codes.
To change the color of a scrollbar (if keeping it visible) you can include 'scrollbar-color:' in your code for the elements you want colored scrollbars in. From here you need to put in two colors. The first affects the thumb of a scrollbar, the usually gray part that you can move up and down. The second will change the color of the track, the lighter background of a scrollbar that doesn't move. This is a way to make them match better, while not having to remove them completely.
Yes! Instead of "background-color:" you use "background-image:" to make gradients. It's a bit hard to explain all the different types of gradients, but simply put, you need
There are multiple types of gradients (linear & radial), and multiple directions you can send it (top/bottom/left/etc), and you can even use more than two colors! (Just add a comma, then the next color hex you want.) For a bit more detail, see this page: www.w3schools.com/css/css3_gradients.asp
The page will also show you how it'll look, and you can experiment with the colors and such before you replace anything on your layout. c:
